When you think of giving a site or product exposure, people immediately think of advertising in say – The local papers, yellow pages, TV, Radio Ads, Fliers and all other sorts of advertising media. Publicity is none of the above. Advertising is Advertising and Publicity is Publicity. The way to describe Publicity is that it is usually done by writing a story or a description of something funny that happened on the way home or some topical event. This story usually involves you – but it also involves mentioning your business, giving your Name, Email, website address and anything else you wish to put into the article. This article or story is then submitted to your local newspaper editor, the local radio station, free newspapers and any other media looking for a good story to fill up their paper so that they don’t have to go looking for news.
Depending on how well the article is written as to how willing the media will be to accept your article. You may have also taken some photos or videos of the event you saw which you can admit as well. If you have written a story of your new restaurant make it credible, detail what type of food you are going to be serving, giving them an idea of what will be on the menu, what type of service they can expect and whether it is licensed or not. Also mention any successful restaurants, cafes or any eateries that you have been connected with. Mention how experienced your staff is and where they worked before. Mention how the food will be cooked and what garnishing and extras you will be serving with your meals.
All this is to encourage the reader to come and sample all your restaurant has to offer, and if the customer is hungry and eager – whatever you do don’t disappoint them. Publicity for other businesses roughly follows the same formula. You mention your Qualification, your staffs qualifications, how the establishment is set up and of courses tell them the address of your business so that they can find it. Putting a large address number at the front of your building if practical makes it much easier for you to be found. You do want people driving up and down and giving up when they can’t find it. Also if it is practical you should have a large sign and several smaller ones so that customers can see where you are whichever direction they are coming from.
If you want to put a story on TV for free or paid TV naturally you have to try and do it yourself which is usually fine if you are putting a video on YouTube or Google Video or one of the other video sites. If you want to put a small story on TV on some of the cable channels you can do it yourself, but on regular TV, you want to come across as semi professional and not a backyard, fly by night experience. There are a lot of Media professionals that are quite competitive price-wise, even compared to newspapers.
Someone once said “All Publicity Is Good Publicity”. Why do you think people throw TV, s out of hotel windows, get married for 24 hours, spend $3million on their wedding. That is because the publicity that comes from such events, makes people famous, saves careers, gets full front page, prime time TV exposure, publicity which you can not buy. It is a great way to keep people in the foreground and have people talking about them. Odd Strange and Eccentric people sell newspapers and TV time.
People who are loved by some and hated by others are a very salable item, with managers lining up to sign them up no matter what they are famous for. Therefore your business must try to find something about it that people will talk about!
Weight loss help books are available in the bookstores anywhere in your vicinity. These books are usually of the self-help variety which can contain tips on how to maintain your regular and/or ideal weight and tips on how to achieve your ideal weight if you are overweight, that is.
Information about the quick weight loss diet programs that are ceaselessly advertised by stars in and out of the TV screens, the health and fitness channels on TV, the weekly or monthly entertainment magazines and even those we encounter in casual conversations with our friends are now printed with in depth and with more details on the self-help books.
To know more about weight loss and the methods employed by majority of the public, it’s best to check with the bookstores or the libraries.
Another source of weight loss help aside from the books is the internet. Type in the keywords: “weight loss help” on the search bars of Google, Yahoo, Altavista, MSN—and other web browsers—and hit the enter key on the keyboard and a number of page titles containing the keywords you entered will come out right in front of your face!
All you need do is sift through the information you get, whether they are significant or unnecessary, and do extensive reading on them. One website on weight loss issues, authored by Anne Collins, compiled many articles that you may find helpful on the subject of weight loss. Aside from that site, there are a few more sites that offer the same kind of services.
All you need do is type and click the search button beside the search bar of your chosen web browser. Also, it would probably be more helpful if you combine both the information power of the print media and the electronic media.
With the combined abilities of the print media (books, magazines, newspapers and etc.) and the electronic media (namely, the internet), the more you acquire information on weight loss that are significant, valid and genuinely backed by scientific studies.
Aside from books and the internet, there are videotapes and DVDs or VCDs that give instructions or information on the many popular methods of losing weight. These visual media are also great source for weight loss help—most especially to those who seek them. VCDs, DVDs and videotapes are usually of the documentary-demonstration type where there is little interview and more demonstration on how the methods employed in losing weight work on the human body. Of course you can also get help from those who have used these weight loss programs and have nothing but compliments and praises on them. Casual conversations with friends who’ve used the popular methods of losing weight can be a great source of information on weight loss.
In this technologically-advanced era, weight loss help is only a few steps ahead of us. All we do is read around!
A major international conference on agricultural biotechnology starts in Melbourne, Australia, today (August 6, 2006).The Agricultural Biotech International Conference (ABIC) brings together representatives of biotech companies, agricultural researchers and policy makers from across the world.
The theme of this conference is Unlocking the Potential of Agricultural Biotechnology. Some of the topics to be discussed include:
* Importance of biotechnology in meeting global food requirements.
* Application of agricultural biotechnology in biomedicine.
* Commercialization of innovative biotechnology.
* Practical applications of genomics to cereal crops.
* Using biotechnology to protect and enhance food supply.
* Biotechnology in developing countries.
Unlocking the potential of agricultural biotechnology is an issue that has been with us since the commercialization of the first genetically modified crop a decade ago. Developed countries, notably the U.S. and Canada, appreciate that agricultural biotechnology has been a prime mover of their economies. They have massively invested in it, effectively eclipsing the so-called conventional agriculture. The gains have been innumerable.
Farmers in these countries have almost doubled their income from cultivating genetically modified crops, that are usually high yielding and pest resistant.
In developing countries, the picture is different. Agricultural biotechnology remains a contested issue. Many developing countries would not embrace because of their distrust for the developed countries. Others have been fed with lies that agricultural biotechnology, and in particular Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), pose danger to the environment and the health of consumers.
Positive attributes of agricultural biotechnology must be played out at the Melbourne meeting for all to listen.
It’s encouraging that delegates from developing countries such as Prof. Jennifer Thomson (South Africa), Dr. Jagadish Mittur (India), and Dr. Rangsun Parnpai (Thailand) are attending this conference. They have a chance to learn firsthand how agricultural biotechnology has revolutionized the economies of such countries as the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. These delegates must explore how their countries can similarly benefit from agricultural biotechnology.
Since this is a gathering of experts in agricultural biotechnology, it’s expected that there will a productive debate on the potential of agricultural biotechnology. Delegates should conduct their deliberations with developing countries in mind. It’s here where agricultural biotechnology is in dire need.
Developing countries delegates are encouraged to view this conference as a window of opportunity to learn from as many experts as possible on the potential of agricultural biotechnology.
Once the curtains of this conference fall, delegates from developing countries must ensure that they share the lessons learnt with policy makers, scientists and farmers in their respective countries.
This series of articles are focused on how to become known as an expert. Today we will focus on how to gain media attention.
Dale Carnegie said in his famous book – How To Win Friends and Influence People, “babies cry for and grown men die for”. We all want attention and recognition. We seek media attention to get our name splashed in newspapers, radio and TV. Not only is it something we personally want but it is also a great strategy to gain expert status and get clients.
I have been written up in print, interviewed on radio and TV. Did you know one appearance on TV can catapult you into fame and launch your career into the stratosphere? Fawn Germer, who I recently hear speak, was featured on Oprah. She has leveraged it to the hilt. We all know what can happen if you are seen on The Oprah Show. Businesses become hugely successful and a million books are sold! Dr. Phil and Dr. OZ started as guests on The Oprah Show. Now they have their own shows.
So how do you get attention of the media?
Here are 5 simple strategies:
- Find an angle that will appeal to the media: It is quite easy to look up what current stories are already being covered in the media. Just find an angle to latch on to the story. It is not enough to say that you are a chiropractor or a massage therapist. What is new, unique or newsworthy about your profession?
- Prepare you story: Once you know the angle, create a pitch that is easy for you to communicate. Human interest stories are featured all the time. Pick a struggle and how you or a client overcame that struggle.
- Get a list of reporters: Today it is easier to find reporters on the internet. Social media has made reporters and journalists much more accessible. Pick the target market you want to focus on and find the reporters who cover such stories.
- Call or email them: Depending on the information you have and how timely it is, you can just pick up the phone and call the reporter. Make sure you are aware of simple protocols. TV, radio and print media – all have different strategies in collecting and sharing information. Pay attention to when and how you should approach the media.
- Build a relationship: I consistently write comments to the reporters. You will be amazed how many of them will reply back. Make it a habit to communicate with them so you can be recognized. Today the media is required to build a following and be in touch with their audience.
These simple and effective strategies will help you start moving towards being a media star.
The Indian media fraternity comprises of several components. These include newspapers, magazines, tabloids, TV, radio and the internet. Of late, internet has witnessed the most amounts of investments and is being called the sunrise sector of Indian media. Today, almost all news can be got instantly from the internet as and when they happen. News in India is mostly made up of the day to day happenings of the Indian community as well as all over the world.
Indian media has existed in the country ever since the 18th century. Radio was first introduced by the British and news broadcast stared started almost immediately. Notable Indian luminaries contributed to the growth of Indian radio and this important component of Indian media has been around for almost a century now.
A recent study on the media of India has revealed that over a 100 million daily newspapers were bought in the country. This has made India the second largest newspaper market in the world. In fact, the Indian news industry has grown hugely over the last decade. This is partly because of the fact that TV has made huge inroads in the house of the average Indian. There are more than 1400 companies in the country today that’s making TV sets. This, on its part, has made India the fourth largest TV market. This is mostly stemmed from the fact that the Indian media operates in country that has a huge population. Besides the print and electronic media, internet has gained immense ground, as already said, and has reached almost every nook and corner of the country. Online news has emerged as a quick and efficient method of catering news in the Indian media industry.
Like most other countries, news in Indian media is almost instantaneously catered to the audience via the TV channels. This enables the media of India to reach out to the largest possible audience at one go.
Another important facet of the media of India is the publication of vernacular newspapers. India has linguistic states and each state has several vernacular newspapers catering news, views, information and opinion of local and regional interest to people of that particular state. Many states have their local English dailies as well that mostly caters to the urban and the semi-urban class.
Since the early and the mid-1990s, radio in India has been mostly powered by the FM channels. The FM transmissions transformed the radio from a fading media to a really vibrant one. The FM transmission is mostly entertainment oriented although the government-run stations broadcasts news and information of social importance.
It can be said sans any doubt that the media of India would take a quantum leap in the coming years powered by the internet and TV.
It’s no secret that technology has been evolving at an alarming rate and that makes flat screen televisions more available at discount prices. Therefore as prices of televisions come down the market for flat screen TV stands goes up. The sized of flat screens as of late keep getting bigger and that requires a television stand that can accommodate such a large TV. Another factor to consider is how much storage they can house in you entertainment center. if you are like me you have a rapidly growing collection of media including DVD, CD and gaming products. This has to be a main requirement for buying, Media storage.
Since the onslaught of Blu-ray and DVD movies, we as consumers have to find a way to store all of this equipment preferably in the same place we house our television, TV Stands! So the thing to do is find the right flat screen television stand that will not only hold my TV and
One of the best ways to go about finding the right TV stand is by going to your local HH gregg or Best Buy to see what they stock and if it will fit your budget and home decor. You want to somewhat match your Television stand with your flat panel TV. They come in all sorts of wood finishes or if you prefer a more contemporary look you can go with metal or glass. Be sure to check reviews and prices to be sure that you are getting the best value for your money. I always check online to see if I can get a better deal and most of the time I can. Places like eBay and Amazon always have a great selection.
At a glance:
- Implicit media endorsements make you stand out from the competition.
- It’s not advertising; it’s building credibility.
- Maximize your exposure by posting it on your Web site and sharing it via social media.
A colleague of mine, who’s a former newspaper reporter, tells a story about a savvy attorney she knew. He’d tip her off whenever he had a particularly juicy case if she promised to include his name alongside that of his client in her story. Whether he won the case or lost it, people remembered his name and associated him with high-profile cases. He’d figured out that having his name in the paper bought him something no amount of advertising could: credibility.
For anyone trying to build a business, sell a product or get their book into the hands of more consumers, the implicit endorsement that comes from being interviewed by the media is what I call “marketing gold.”
Let me explain. Thanks to the Internet, you and every competitor you have, big or small, have the same chance to reach your potential consumers. So, what makes one business, one product or book more appealing than another? It’s endorsements from the media that make you stand out. Let’s face it – if USA Today has chosen to review your book, or refer to it in an article, it gives reason to believe there’s something special about it. If a doctor is quoted in the news about solutions to a particular health issue you’re dealing with – your instinct will be to check out him and his product first, because the media must consider him an authority to have quoted him.
When the media recognizes that you have something important to say, you gain credibility. This is the marketing gold I’m referring to: the endorsements from TV and radio show hosts, the editorial coverage in newspapers and magazines – and now, bloggers, news Web sites and followers on social media too. All these forms of recognition give others confidence you’re as good as you say you are. But, it’s upon you to use this “gold” as a critical part of your marketing to let people know these endorsements exist.
The return on investment usually isn’t immediate, which can be frustrating to people who expect a surge in business or a spike in sales with every media interview. That used to happen more often in the old days – I’m talking way back in the ’90s – when a radio talk show host might chat with you for 30 or 60 minutes and newspapers had twice as many pages to fill. It became apparent that when a client’s message clearly addressed an urgent public problem, along with their expertise and solution-oriented content, they could hit the jackpot.
From January to April, an IRS expert who spoke of resolutions to IRS problems or gave on-air tips on how to prevent IRS abuses would always see a huge jump in book sales. Or, the health expert, who got on the air during flu season and explained why his health program would make them feel better faster would sell a ton of product.
But the old days are gone and here we are in 2012. Today’s talk radio interviews are brief – 7 to 10 minutes in the larger markets – and newspapers have no space for full feature stories on interesting entrepreneurs and writers. There are far fewer opportunities to grab an audience for a significant length of time.
So how do you grow your investment in PR? Marketing your media exposure is a strategy that pays big dividends over time – but requires an effort from you.
- Your Web site should prominently display your endorsements: “As seen on CBS,” “featured in the Louisville Gazette,” “heard on WFLA radio.”
- Don’t forget to mention the media coverage to your Twitter followers and Facebook fans, too. The third-party endorsement will help you build more contacts, because people like knowing who the experts are and following them.
- Use the media you’ve obtained to help you gain more TV, radio and print exposure. It serves as credibility for journalists as well and they will be more likely to want to interview you if you’ve already been vetted by other media professionals.
- Let your personality shine online and respond to journalists and followers alike with interesting commentary and insights – not pleas to buy your book or product.
Yes, it takes work, a strong theme and a message that resonates. But if you invest wisely, you’ll grow rich in marketing gold.
